Create fun and funky yarn from reclaimed fibers!
Once you’ve learned the basics from The Wheel and The Wool, take your spinning up a notch while taking a small step to help save the planet! Guild member Gigi Matthews is back again with some fiber fun, done on a spinning wheel! This is a three part series, or choose just one class, it’s up to you!
Class #1 – February 26, 2022, Blending and Spinning with Plant Fibers: Their histories and how to work with them
Learn how to make handspun yarn using plant fibers such as flax (aka linen), hemp, nettles, jute, sisal, abaca, kapok, cotton, wood shavings, bamboo, soy, and Tencel (including other silky white fibers made from plants such as rose, mint, corn, and pineapple).
Class #2 – March 5, 2022, Making Art Yarn: Blending and Spinning with Unusual and Upcycled Fibers
Rare breed sheep; fleece locks; Seacell and/or other silk substitutes such as corn/ingeo and milk casein; silk throwsters waste; weaving thrums; fabric, ribbons, yarn, and thread remnants; shredded denim reclaimed from clothing manufacturing; “plarn” and “clarn”(yarn made from plastic bags and cloth).
Class #3 – March 19, 2022, Making Concept Yarns: Handspun Yarns with a Theme
Learn how to create handspun yarn based on a theme – such as “forest floor” or “blue jeans on the beach” – incorporating a variety of fibers, colors, and textures.

Cancellation Policy: Students who cancel more than 30 days prior to the start of a class/workshop will be given a full refund.
Students who cancel 14 days or less prior to the start of the class, will not receive a refund.
Classes and workshops that do not fill 2 weeks prior to their start date will be canceled.
Students will be notified at that time. Full refunds will be given if the class is canceled.
