The Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers is a volunteer-driven organization, and member participation is crucial to our success. Education

Classes – We are looking for members to monitor enrollment and communicate with the teacher about enrollments and the needs the teacher may have while teaching at the guild.

Programs – Member (s) needed to find location for monthly meetings/gatherings (held 7 times/year) and schedule speaker. This would be good for a group or committee

Workshops – Member(s) to find well known teachers to come into Philadelphia to teach. Could be once or twice per year.

Guild and Assets

Equipment Rental – Members(s) needed to help maintain equipment that is rented through our rental program. We would also like a member or two to help with inventory, pick up and drop off of equipment to make sure it is returned as it was borrowed. 

Library – Member (s) needed to help maintain our extensive book collection.

Guild Maintenance – Member(s) needed to help maintain the guild house by sometimes hiring professionals to make repairs. We have landscaping needs, supply needs, and general oversight of the guild house. Our house costs approximately $10,000 – $15,000 annually to maintain, not including repairs. We also have supplies that need refilling and closets tokeep organized!

Events and Exhibitions

Fiberpalooza– Members(s) needed to help organize, price and set up tables for Fiberpalooza, our fiber swap and sale.

Holiday Sale – Member(s) needed to organize and help set up and run our annual holiday sale.

Celebration of Fibers – Member(s) needed to help set up our annual member juried show, find judges, set up hospitailty, etc.

These jobs may entail finding suitable locations, moving display’s and being organized with the ability to stay on task. 

Technology

Members familiar with WordPress and/or Mailerlite needed to help create forms, events, emails and keep the website up to date. 

Community and Outreach

Members needed to help organize and volunteer for events held in and around Philadelphia. These events help us maintain the Philadelhia Cultural Fund grant we receive annually. 

Communication

Weekly Email – Members needed to help organize and write information for weekly eblast.

Gazette – Members wanted to help gather information for the monthly Gazette, our newsletter!

Social Media – This drives our class enrollment. We post about local fiber related events. If you are efficient with posting, we are looking for a Social Media monitor.

 

Development

Grants – Members needed to help organize and write grants for future “dream” work on the guild house.

Advertising – Members wanted to help maintain and re-implement our advertising program. 

Membership – Someone is needed to reach out to members, helping the board maintain programs that our membership is interested in. 

 

Hospitality

Member Relations and Feedback – Members wanted to stay in touch with members to help collect feedback about guild oversight.

Refreshments – Members wanted to provide and set up refreshments at meetings and events.

Membership – Someone is needed to welcome new members!
