This 2-part workshop will explore variations on Plain Weave to add more diversity to your weaving designs. Starting with a pre-warped loom based on a Color and Weave design, the class will examine ways that color can change through weft design. Some aspects of color theory will be discussed. The second part of the workshop will use that same warp but the weft changes will be in texture using either a pick-up stick or finger-manipulated structures.
Necessary supplies:
Rigid Heddle loom, minimum width 15″, pre-warped following instructions that will be sent out to students
3/2 or 5/2 cotton yarn for warp; additional yarns for weft
At least 4 shuttles
1 or 2 pick up sticks
Saturday, May 31st AND Saturday, June 7th, 9am – 1pm
Teacher bio:
I am an active member of PGHW and dedicated to sharing my love of all textile arts. I weave on floor looms, rigid heddle looms, little looms, tapestry looms, always looking for new ways to create visual excitement with fibers. I have taught Rigid Heddle classes at PGHW since 2018, as well as classes and workshops at Handweavers Guild of Connecticut, Brookfield (CT) Craft Center, Wesleyan Potters, Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, CT and at numerous shops and craft settings. My goals in teaching always include ways to push each learner to experiment, take risks, and focus on process, not product.
