Weave Project on a Floor Loom w/ Nancy Shiffrin (Fall 2026)

November 5 @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm

Students will receive help to design and weave a project from start to finish, so this is your chance to stretch your skills with guidance and support! The teacher will encourage students to try something new to them; a new yarn, a new structure, a new type of project. In the past, students have tackled lace weaves, overshot, twills, turned taquette and double weave among other structures.

You might weave a scarf, table linens or a wall hanging. Students will be in touch with the teacher ahead of class to do some project planning and help with ordering yarns. There will be 4 and 8 shaft looms available.

Level: Beyond Beginners; students must have taking a weaving class before

Supplies: Students will supply their project yarns.

Dates and Times: This class is 6 sessions and meets on Thursdays from 10:30am – 2:30pm, at the Guild House.
November 5, 12, 19, December 3, 10 & 17, 2026 (Skipping Thanksgiving week)

Instructor Bio

Nancy Shiffrin has a BA in studio art, with a concentration in Pottery. In the mid 1980’s she discovered weaving, and has been exploring the many dimensions of fiber ever since. Over the years she has explored embroidery, dyeing, knotting, quilting and surface design, but always returns to weaving which feels integral to her identity.

In 1992 she received a Certificate of Excellence in Handweaving, Master Level from the Handweaver’s Guild of America. She enjoys many types of weaving, but has concentrated on weaving complex weaves with a computer assisted loom. Over the years she has taught all levels of Handweaving to children and adults, from beginners through advanced. She loves teaching new weavers, and through them is constantly exposed to the delight of discovery.
