SIG Ideas and organization
Hello everyone,
Our next meeting is May 26 at 1 pm. I have been thinking about how to proceed with this group. I have been weaving for many decades and therefore I am not in a beginners mindset. I would like to make this group accessible to all levels and offer something to everyone. And as you can imagine, that isn’t always easy to accomplish!
So I would like to get some input on some ideas I have in order to proceed. I can possibly set up a list of topics that we cover monthly. Weaving a project allows us to learn the process but sometimes the weaving gets delayed as we learn specific things along the way. So what I am thinking is we set topics to delve into on a deeper basis. Then we can put it all together into a project and maybe use many looms along the way.
Here is a list of some ideas I would like to add to an agenda. I would love the input from members about what you want to learn. Also, I certainly don’t know all there is to know and I have strengths and weaknesses in the habits I have formed over the years, so if you are proficient in a topic you want to show/teach to others, that is certainly something I am open to.
Ideas:
Warping – Board, mill (vertical, horizontal) and everything you want to know about the process
Drafting – doing it by hand or with software (I use Fiberworks Silver)
Threading the loom – FTB (front to back), BTF (Back to front) And many hybrid variations depending on what the project is.
