Almost three years ago, Farren discovered her passion for fiber at a needle felting class. Since then, she has learned wet felting, embroidery, and spinning yarn. She loves combining all these techniques to create unique sculpture art and paintings made from wool. Her passion about sustainable art and love creating nature inspires pieces with materials collected from our bountiful world. You are likely to find her in the forest looking for inspiration, fairy doors and gnomes.
She is so excited to share this unique art form with us. Needle felting is a process that sculpts wool into any shape you can imagine. Wool fibers are covered with scales. When you agitate the fibers, the scales lock together and thus, the felting occurs. In needle felting, we use special barbed needles that lock the scales of the fiber together. What this looks like in real time, is stabbing fluffy colorful wool over and over with sharp needles. During our meeting, she will share a little bit on the history of felting, tools and some ways that she combine various fiber processes in her art.
