    Hello everyone,

Our next meeting is May 26 at 1 pm. I have been thinking about how to proceed with this group. I have been weaving for many decades and therefore I am not in a beginners mindset. I would like to make this group accessible to all levels and offer something to everyone. And as you can imagine, that isn’t always easy to accomplish!

So I would like to get some input on some ideas I have in order to proceed. I can possibly set up a list of topics that we cover monthly. Weaving a project allows us to learn the process but sometimes the weaving gets delayed as we learn specific things along the way. So what I am thinking is we set topics to delve into on a deeper basis. Then we can put it all together into a project and maybe use many looms along the way.

Here is a list of some ideas I would like to add to an agenda. I would love the input from members about what you want to learn. Also, I certainly don’t know all there is to know and I have strengths and weaknesses in the habits I have formed over the years, so if you are proficient in a topic you want to show/teach to others, that is certainly something I am open to.

    Ideas:

Warping – Board, mill (vertical, horizontal) and everything you want to know about the process

Drafting – doing it by hand or with software (I use Fiberworks Silver)

Threading the loom – FTB (front to back), BTF (Back to front) And many hybrid variations depending on what the project is.

    Weaving Structures

    Weaving Designs

    Color and Weave

    Double Weave

    All about Twills

What fiber is good for what use

    Design

Sewing with handwoven – bags, clothes, etc

How to figure out how much yarn is needed

Shuttles – End feed, bottomless, etc.

The why’s and how’s of decision making when weaving

Just a place to start. Please send your ideas and I can make a timeline.

    Thanks, Melissa

    Hello Melissa,

That sounds like an amazing agenda. I truly didn’t appreciate how many different ways there are to do.. well basically everything. For us Dorks who feel the need to read about everything ..any references to good books on the subject matter would also be great.

Sounds really good to me AND it’s my very favorite time and day for a meeting. These ideas are very stimulating.

I’ve woven off and on over 60 years – I’m still a beginner. The most elementary parts of warping are still challenging for me. Melissa, I’ve learned so much from you and I just don’t want you to get tired of leading this SIG.
