Spinning through The Spinner’s Book of Yarn Designs

    Hello,

A few spinning guild members have been talking about going through this book and spinning some, if not all of the yarns written about in the book. I would like to do this but cannot step up to run all of these meetings. We are looking for spinners who are interested in learning new methods as a group and would be willing to step in and host a monthly meet up at the guild house.

You do NOT need to know how to spin the yarn, you simply need to be willing to show up and learn. We would learn how as a group.

It would be wonderful to create a monthly meeting maybe on a weekend and/or weeknight so many spinners can participate. We could keep the group going and rotate through the book in order or however we want. No rules!

If you are interested, please reply to this thread and let’s get something organized!

I am a new spinner and I love this idea! I recently purchased this book and would love to participate when I can. Due to my erratic work schedule, I do not feel it would be fair to the members for me to commit to running it but I would be more than happy to fill in when needed if my schedule allowa. My schedule also leans towards week day availability rather than weekends.

I’d be interested, but it depends on when we would meet. Monday evenings are open now, and in January, Tuesday evenings will be open as well. Sundays work as well.

Days are open as long as there is nothing on the guild calendar. If anyone is open and offering to host, they can pick the date and time by looking at the calendar and emailing calendar@pghw.org. It’s that simple!!

I love that Book! I would be very interested in this group. I’m not sure if I can commit to hosting, but I will consider it if no one else can 🙂

That is my favorite book. I would be interested in leading the group since I’ve always wanted an excuse to explore all the lessons in that book. Will it happen at the normal Sunday spinning SIG?

Thanks Judy, It can be anytime at all and not at the spinners group! It can be different every month. It would be nice to switch it up between weekdays and weekends to get more involvement. I know I can host a few and Bridget said she would and anyone else who wants to can also. Pick a date that is free on the calendar and lets get it started. Once you pick the date, send it to calendar@pghw.org (Sara). Thanks!!!

I have just about every Tuesday and Wednesday off in December (except the first Wednesday) and can host one of those dates if we are going to do the multiple host thing 🙃

I’d like to participate. I wonder about the timing of the meetings though. I can’t meet in the evenings.

Maybe someone knows how to work Survey Monkey and would look for times we haven’t been open to recently, like over breakfast or lunch, late morning any day, Weekends included.

Or maybe we have enough interested people to have two groups?

    Hoping to join you.

I’m excited for this group! I also cannot commit to host on a regular basis but I’m more than happy to host when my schedule allows. It sounds like we have enough people able to rotate in as hosts to support Judy!

I saw that the WoolnSpinning (Rachel Smith) podcast is going to be going through this book as well starting in the new year. It will be fun if we could follow along as well. Did we decide on a date to start? My vote is to do it at the Wednesday night group if that isn’t too distracting to other’s who do not want to participate in the study. Or Tuesday night, if it is available?

It is so exciting that so many of us are interested in expanding our spinning practice by exploring some of the yarn designs in this book. We will start things off at this Sunday’s Spinning SIG, January 7, from 12:00 to 2:00.

Thank you Melissa for the private link to this month’s pages. Rotating pages is easy — plus, having pdfs allows me to add notes. This project is the kick I needed to get back to spinning!
